Malawi 2010

After one of our games in Malawi

From June 8-22, 2010, a team of 20 football players and coaches from Northern Ireland and North America travelled to the country of Malawi with the purpose of bringing life in and through football.  The power of this sport as a tool for sharing the Gospel is immeasurable and it was evident in our time in Malawi.
The tour program consisted of a coaching licensing camp that was linked with the Football Federation of Malawi, two different youth football camps, and four different friendly matches.  Each event brought different opportunities for evangelism which lead to people coming to the Lord, the building of solid relationships and the opportunities for further discipleship.
Evidence of lives being transformed cannot just be found in the people of Malawi, but also in the tour participants.  The saying, “I went to change Africa, but in the end it changed me”, represents the heart of several players and coaches. Daily service projects, discipleship time, and fellowship made for an unforgettable two weeks and overall life changing experiences.
The work done on this outreach is a part of a bigger picture, as AIA Northern Ireland and the Global Football Network have committed to help building the ministry of AIA in Malawi over the next few years.
The goal is that through continual growth and expansion, one day AIA Malawi will become a sustainable sending nation.  With the great relationships we have made on different tours and the strong ties we have with the Football Association of Malawi the potential for growth is staggering.
The next tour to Malawi will be primarily for coaching and leadership development and is scheduled for the beginning of November 2010.
